My Family Came from Ireland Due to Poverty
My family came from Ireland due to poverty. When they arrived in the late 1700s or early 1800s, they faced racism and anti-Catholicism. My family was looked down upon by wealthy Protestant Irish. My family fought to rise up from poverty. My great-great-uncle fought for the North in the Civil War because he knew what it was like to be kept in poverty. My family lived on the East Coast from the beginning until 30 years ago. My family moved out to California, and that is where we stayed.
